Things to knows before Going to ASEAN

Nowadays we can travel to ASEAN much more easily than in the past. However, this easiness may lead some to forget some tiny but vital details which can cause bad impression between the natives and us. These are some advises

1. Lao People’s Democratic Republic

“Sister countries” is the sensitive phrase for Laotians because it has a significant hidden meaning. Whenever Thais say that phrase, it always means Thai is superior to the other. It is rude to say that to the Laotians. If you visit Laos for business purpose you should learn to speak Lao. Always keep in mind that many Laotians understand Thai language. Don’t gossip, lookdown, or say some rude words to them in Thai. It will be more polite and lovely if you call their country’s official name “Lao People’s Democratic Republic”.

2. Union of Myanmar

Keep in your mind that most of the Burmese are strict Buddists. Visitors should dress properly, not wearing shorts, sleeveless shirt, or women’s spaghetti string top. Sleeve shirt with trousers or tube skirt is the proper wearing when you traveling in Myanmar. Moreover, do not talk or critic about politics with a stranger in Myanmar. Also important is beware of all vehicles when you cross the roads in this country.

Even though visitors will get friendly welcome from Cambodians, please always remember that you should not talk or critic the politics of Cambodia and any conflict by mean of international politics. Another thing you should keep in mind is Cambodians have close relationship with the Thais, therefore, avoid gossip them in Thai.

5. Republic of Indonesia

Please keep in mind that Indonesia is a Muslim country, thus, when you have to contact with the government offices or visit important sightseeing places in Indonesia please wear the polite dress such as trousers or knee-length skirt. Transferring things by left hand is impolite for Indonesian. If you wish to command by pointing, please use your thumb because it is more polite. Ordering pork food is very rude; you should pick chicken food which is easily available.

6. Federation of Malaysia

Weather forecast is important in Malaysia, so, check the weather forecast every time before leaving your accommodation. Umbrella is needed. Checking your destination or having Google Map is your best friend especially when you call a taxi in Malaysia. They said that taxi drivers in Malaysia are much more notorious than in Thailand. The law in Malaysia is very strict. Wrongdoers on a narcotics or carrying firearms will be sentenced to death only

7. Negara Brunei Darussalam

Taking a photo inside of the Mosque and religious place is strictly prohibited in Brunei and take off your shoes when go inside. Please wear black clothes when join or attend the official ceremony due the black color is the official color in Brunei. Avoid wearing yellow clothes because the yellow color is for the king only. For the ladies going to visit Brunei, please do not join in the gentlemen party. One more thing, do not horn while driving if it is not necessary.

8. Republic of the Philippines

Filipinos are very friendly, but sometimes embedded with fraudulence, be careful. Don’t make yourself mobile gold or diamond shop. Many people call the Filipino as “Pinoy”, however, please call them “Filipino” as it is formal and polite.

9. Republic of Singapore

There are many strict prohibitions in Singapore. Things you are not allowed to do are smoking and splitting in the public area, crossing the road at prohibited area, and littering in the public space. Fine for the first wrongdoing will be 1,000 Singaporean dollars, and upto 2,000 Singaporean dollars for the second time. Chewing gum is also illegal in Singapore. Carrying gun and possessing narcotics in Singapore will be sentenced to death.

In fact, if we have enough money to “pay”, we can easily travel to any places in the world including ASEAN…..just travel there is OK but it will be smart if we know before we go there.

รู้ไว้ก่อนไปอาเซียน

ทุกวันนี้เราไปเยือนประเทศเพื่อนบ้านอาเซียนในคราบนักท่องเที่ยวได้ง่ายขึ้นกว่าอดีตมาก แต่การไปถึงที่ง่ายก็อาจทำให้หลายคนหลงลืมรายละเอียดจำเป็นบางอย่างที่อาจมีผลต่อความรู้สึกระหว่างกันได้ นะนำให้คุณใส่รายละเอียดเล็กๆ ก่อนไปเยือนเพื่อนบ้าน

1.สปป.ลาว คำว่า ‘บ้านพี่เมืองน้อง’ เป็นถ้อยวลีที่เปราะบางต่อความรู้สึกของผู้คนหากจะเอ่ยที่นี่ เพราะทุกครั้งเอ่ยพี่ไทยมักจะแสดงความเป็น ‘พี่’ ซึ่งมีนัยยะที่เหนือกว่าเสมอ หากมาเพื่อธุรกิจควรพูดภาษาลาวให้ได้ แต่คนลาวส่วนหนึ่งเข้าใจภาษาไทย ดังนั้นอย่าเผลอไปนินทาหรือดูแคลนกัน และจะน่ารักยิ่งขึ้นหากเรียกประเทศเขาว่า สปป.ลาว

2.เมียนมาร์ สิ่งที่พึงระลึกไว้คือชาวเมียนมาร์ส่วนใหญ่ยังเป็นชาวพุทธที่เคร่งครัดมาก ดังนั้นผู้มาเยือนจึงไม่ควรสวมกางเกงขาสั้น เสื้อกล้ามสายเดี่ยวเข้าวัด ควรแต่งกายสุภาพมิดชิด ผู้หญิงอาจพกผ้านุ่งติดตัว นอกจากนี้ยังไม่ควรพูดเรื่องการเมืองเมียนมาร์กับคนแปลกหน้า และที่สำคัญจงจำไว้ว่า รถทุกชนิดที่วิ่งบนท้องถนนไม่ค่อยจะแคร์คนข้ามถนน

3.กัมพูชา แม้จะต้อนรับนักท่องเที่ยวได้อย่างมีไมตรี แต่สิ่งที่พึงระลึกไว้เมื่อเข้าไปเยี่ยมเยือนเพื่อนบ้านประเทศนี้ คือควรงดเอ่ยหรือวิจารณ์การเมืองภายใน รวมถึงการเอ่ยถึงความขัดแย้งใดๆ โดยนัยยะทางการเมืองระหว่างประเทศ คนกัมพูชาค่อนข้างใกล้ชิดกับคนไทย หลายคนสื่อสารและเข้าใจภาษาไทยได้ ดังนั้นสิ่งที่ไม่พึงกระทำคือการเผลอนินทาคนท้องถิ่นโดยไม่รู้ตัว

4.เวียดนาม รถจักรยานยนต์เป็นประชากรหลักบนท้องถนน ประชากรสองล้อมักจะครองสถานะเป็นผู้ครอบครองถนนเสมอ พวกเขาค่อนข้างวิ่งตามใจ หลายครั้งสัญญาณไฟแดงเป็นแค่สัญลักษณ์ที่ไม่ใคร่แยแสดังนั้นเมื่อจะข้ามถนนจงมั่นใจ จ้องพวกเขา และเดินอย่างมาดมั่น อ้อ... อย่าลืมทำใจให้ชินกับเสียงบีบแตรที่ชาวเวียดนามใช้สมค่ากับมันเกิดมาเป็นแตรด้วย

5.อินโดนีเซีย อินโดนีเซียเป็นประเทศมุสลิม ดังนั้นเมื่อต้องติดต่อราชการหรือสถานที่สำคัญควรต้องแต่งกายสุภาพ สวมกางเกงขายาวหรือกระโปรงยาวคลุมเข่า การรับส่งของด้วยมือซ้ายสำหรับชาวอินโดนีเซียถือว่าไม่สุภาพ และหากต้องการใช้นิ้วสั่งการควรใช้นิ้วโป้งชี้จะสุภาพกว่า การถามหาอาหารที่เป็นเนื้อหมูเป็นเรื่องหยาบคาย เนื้อไก่จะหารับประทานได้มากที่สุดที่นี่

6.มาเลเซีย ควรเช็คสภาพอากาศก่อนออกจากที่พักในมาเลเซีย บางทีอาจต้องพกร่มติดตัว นอกจากนี้การเช็คเส้นทางหรือมี Google Map เป็นเพื่อนร่วมทางก็จำเป็นมาก โดยเฉพาะเมื่อต้องใช้บริการแท็กซี่ ว่ากันว่าคนขับแท็กซี่ที่นี่ขึ้นชื่อกว่าพี่ไทยมาก ส่วนกฎหมายที่ไม่ลดหย่อนเลยแต่ประหารชีวิตสถานเดียวสำหรับที่นี่คือ ยาเสพติดกับพกอาวุธ

7.บรูไน บรูไนเข้มงวดเรื่องการห้ามถ่ายภาพในศาสนสถาน ควรถอดรองเท้าเมื่อเข้าไปเยี่ยมชม เมื่อต้องร่วมพิธีที่เป็นทางการในบรูไนควรสวมชุดสีดำเนื่องจากเป็นสีที่เป็นทางการของที่นี่ ส่วนสีที่ควรหลีกเลี่ยงคือสีเหลืองเนื่องจากเป็นสีสำหรับกษัตริย์ สำหรับคุณสุภาพสตรีควรงดการสังสรรค์ในหมู่สุภาพบุรุษจำนวนมาก และหากต้องขับรถ ไม่ควรบีบแตรหากไม่จำเป็น

8.ฟิลิปปินส์ ชาวฟิลิปปินส์อัธยาศัยดี แต่ในความอัธยาศัยดีก็จะแฝงมาด้วยมิจฉาชีพได้หากไม่ระมัดระวัง ดังนั้นอย่าทำตัวเป็น ‘ร้านทอง’ หรือ ‘ตู้เพชร’ เคลื่อนที่ หลายครั้งบางคนเรียกชาวฟิลิปปินส์ว่าปินอยส์ แต่ถ้าต้องการความสุภาพควรเอ่ยกับพวกเขาว่า ฟิลิปปิโน (Philippino)

9.สิงคโปร์ สิงคโปร์เข้มงวดมากกับหลายกฎเกณฑ์ สิ่งที่ห้ามทำเด็ดขาดในสิงคโปร์ คือ สูบบุหรี่และถ่มน้ำลายในที่สาธารณะ ห้ามข้ามถนนในจุดที่ไม่ได้รับอนุญาตให้ข้าม การทิ้งขยะในที่สาธารณะซึ่งจะถูกปรับถึง 1,000 ดอลล่าร์สิงคโปร์ ในครั้งแรก และ 2,000 ในครั้งต่อมา นอกจากนี้ยังมีกฎหมายห้ามเคี้ยวหมากฝรั่ง ส่วนการพกอาวุธปืนสิ่งผิดกฎหมายและยาเสพติดมีโทษถึงขั้นประหารชีวิตอันที่จริงหากเรามีความสามารถใน ‘การจ่าย’ เราก็จะสามารถเดินทางไปได้เกือบทุกหนทุกแห่งบนโลกใบนี้ รวมถึงกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียนของเราเอง ...ไปน่ะไปได้ และถ้าไปในแบบ ‘รู้เขารู้เรา’ ก็เรียกได้ว่าเราก็ฉลาดพอตัว
