After a long day at work, going to some restaurants whether it is a familiar place, a new one in town, or having creative concept should not be a bad idea. “Soi Klang” or Soi Sukhumvit 49 is a shortcut to Thong Lor area and other small sois packed with many well-decorated gourmet restaurants. Just 50m. from the front of the soi on the left, “Smith”, the newly opened restaurant designed by Chanon Buranon, interior designer of GUS, Parowata is remarkable with an eye-catching painting on the galvanized iron panel. The graphics on the restaurant’s exterior wall and the factory-like sliding door promise the engagement with the meat. The concept of the Butcher Style is elaborated through overall design from the aluminum door frame to the spacious restaurant area governed by the rough industrial aesthetic atmosphere.

Inspired by the glass elevator from the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the intention to bright up the stressful days of the employees, “Lickable Lift” is invented with 1,325 McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes. To have this experience book a flight to London, UK then you are able to taste various flavour of the cake with your own tongue.

Shop redesign has become one of Starbuck’s marketing strategies to gain the lost share in the market without acrificing it's ideology. Eco-friendly policy is applied to it's design for many shops around the world such as USA, the Netherland, and Japan. Although the design concept is different in each country depending on consumer’s behavior, all must achieve LEED standard which emphasis on sustaining the environment together with a perfect design. One of the remarkable new design shops is located at The Amsterdamsche Bank in Rembrandt Square, Amsterdam where coffee was part of nation’s important history. The renovation reflects art, culture, and Dutch’s architectural style which projects the open space and clean lines. The materials used include 1,876 pieces of wood blocks, antique tiles, and recycle bike’s inner tires. The attempt of the brand to achieve sustainable marketing strategy may not generate profit to the brand shortly but it would provide them the image by creating the good feelings of customers to look unique when getting the service in the shop and to be part of the world’s environment carers.

The widespread of “Food Stylist” is not limited only for high class restaurants but also the presentation of food for marketing events such as product opening or celebrities’ public promotion. Phon – Jitlakha Suksermsongchai, Monkey Can Fly Creative Catering owner who transformed herself from advertising art director to food stylist years ago. She’s introducing us some easy dishes for the party at home, here are the recipe you can follow step by step;

“To live in Samchuk Market hood is definitelyuncomfortable but this is how they fight for living. The local way of arrangement should be appreciated”

Visual design is concerned with images whose function is tocommunicate and inform visually: signs, symbols, the meaning of forms and colours and the relations between these. The visual designer is called upon to make a communication to re-establish contact between art and public by analyzing, synthesizing, and designing to give the design a form as appropriate as possible from psychological and aesthetic factors.” - Bruno Munari’s Design as Art.

It’s more likely to me to be interested in the design of restaurant than the meal I’m going to have, especially with the new
restaurant I have never been to. Not sure if this is something in most architects’ subconscious mind.
