‘KYAIKHTIYO PAGODA’ LAND OF FAITH
As our faith and curiosity overcomes people’s negative view of Myanmar; like it is a dangerous country or people are not friendly, this issue we would like to bring you to the top of the mountain in Kyaikto city, Mon State, Myanmar where a well-known ‘Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda’ is located on.
Land of faith Kyaikhitiyo Pagodais regarded as one of the five most sacred religious sites that Myanmar people should visit once in their lifetime. If you don’t have strong faith, you will probably give up as of an elevation of 3,615 feet above sea level, plus a steep winding path of Paung Laung hill. According to legend, when the Buddha visited Suvarnabhumi land to give his sermon, he gave his hair strand to Tissa hermit in order that people could pay homage to it. Instead of keeping it in a stupa, he was carrying it on his head inside his hair knot. Before he passed away, he asked Indra, the supreme Hindu god, to search for a boulder whose shape resembled his head for containing the Buddha’s hair. Finally, the Indra found a suitable rock under the ocean and deposited it on Paung Laung hill. Myanmar people have called it ‘Jai-ti-yo’, but ‘Phra-tat-in-kwaen’ for Thai people.
The amazing thing is that its area of contact with the cliff is extremely small. During sunrise, you will clearly see a ray of sunlight pass through the hole between these two rocks. Its golden color comes from gold-leaf squares that people place them on its surface as an offering and act of merit. However, only well-dressed men can access to the close proximity to the golden rock. You can pay homage to Buddha by purchasing a set of sacrificial offering or just put the palms of your hands together in salute. Myanmar people always chant and pay homageat dawn, at noon to late afternoon and after sunset. Anyway, there are still a lot of people at midnight and some people also sleep there. Before going back, don’t forget to visit shops and stalls selling local souvenirs by friendly merchants with tanaka white patches on their cheeks.
Travel guide • From Yangon to Kyaikto, you can rent a van or taxi from the airport or take a bus ‘Yangon–Bago-Kyaikto’ line which takes about 6-7 hours to Kinpun base camp. From there you have to take an open-top truck, and then walk a little further to reach there. For those who don’t want to walk, you can hire locals to carry you on specially designed carriage.
• If you have enough time, you can visit Bago city. There are temples, a huge reclined Buddha statue, Kanbawzathadi Royal Palace and important places related to Thai history.

‘พระธาตุอินแขวน’ แดนแห่งศรัทธา
เมื่อแรงศรัทธามาพร้อมกับคำคัดค้านจากคนรอบข้างที่ยังมองประเทศเปิดใหม่อย่างประเทศเมียนมาร์ว่าดูอันตรายบ้าง ผู้คนไม่เป็นมิตรบ้าง แต่ด้วยความที่อยากไปดูให้เห็นด้วยสองตา แรงศรัทธาจึงเป็นฝ่ายชนะ ทริปนี้ปลายทางอยู่ที่เมืองไจโท (Kyaikto) รัฐมอญบนยอดเขาสูงที่ประดิษฐานของพระธาตุอินแขวนอันเลื่องชื่อ
พระธาตุอินแขวน กับแรงศรัทธา พระธาตุอินแขวน (Kyaikhtiyo) ถือเป็น 1 ใน 5 สิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ ที่ชาวเมียนมาร์ใช้เป็นเครื่องยืดเหนี่ยวจิตใจ เชื่อกันว่าครั้งหนึ่งในชีวิตต้องมาสักการะให้ได้ แต่ด้วยความสูงเหนือระดับน้ำทะเล 3,615 ฟุต บวกกับเส้นทางที่คดเคี้ยวไปมาของยอดเขาพวงลวง หากไม่ใช่เพราะแรงศรัทธาจริงๆ คงถอดใจเอากลางทางแน่ๆ พระธาตุอินแขวน ตามคำบอกกล่าวที่เล่าต่อๆ กันมาว่า เมื่อครั้งที่พระพุทธเจ้า เสด็จมาแสดงธรรมเทศนา ณ ดินแดนสุวรรณภูมิ พระองค์ได้มอบพระเกศาให้กับฤษีติสสะไว้ เป็นตัวแทนพระพุทธองค์เพื่อให้ประชาชนได้มาสักการะ แทนที่ฤๅษีติสสะจะนำไปบรรจุไว้ในสถูปเจดีย์แต่กลับซ่อนพระเกศานี้ไว้ในมวยผมของตน เมื่อถึงเวลาที่จะต้องละสังขาร จึงตั้งใจนำพระเกศาไปบรรจุไว้ในก้อนหินที่มีรูปร่างคล้ายกับศีรษะของตน จึงให้พระอินทร์ช่วยหา จนเจอก้อนหินดังกล่าวที่ใต้ท้องมหาสมุทร และก็ให้พระอินทร์นำมาวางหรือแขวนไว้บนภูเขาหินในตำแหน่งท้าทายแรงโน้มถ่วง ชาวเมียนมาร์เรียกว่า ไจก์ทิโย ส่วนคนไทยเรียกว่า พระธาตุอินแขวนจนติดปาก
สิ่งที่น่าทึ่งอีกอย่างหนึ่งคือหินสองก้อนที่เห็นไม่ได้สัมผัสกันแบบแนบสนิท ช่วงเช้าๆ ตอนพระอาทิตย์ขึ้น จะเห็นลำแสงลอดผ่านช่องระหว่างหินได้อย่างชัดเจน ส่วนที่เห็นเป็นสีเหลืองทองอร่าม นั่นก็เพราะแรงศรัทธาของผู้คนที่แวะเวียนมาปิดแผ่นทองคำเปลวที่องค์พระธาตุกันนับพันคนต่อวัน แต่ใช่ว่าใครจะเข้าไปได้ง่ายๆ เพราะมีรั้วล้อมรอบองค์พระธาตุไว้ ที่สำคัญเข้าได้เฉพาะผู้ชายที่แต่งกายสุภาพเท่านั้น ส่วนวิธีไหว้พระธาตุอินแขวนก็ไม่ยากเลย จะซื้อชุดของไหว้ที่จัดเตรียมไว้พร้อมบริเวณซุ้มโดยรอบก็ได้ หรือจะพนมมือกราบไหว้เฉยๆ ก็ได้ตามสะดวก แต่หากอยากให้ได้ผลบุญมากๆ คนเมียนมาร์เขาจะไหว้กัน 3 เวลา คือ ช่วงเช้ามืดพร้อมแสงแรกของวันใหม่ ช่วงกลางวันถึงบ่าย และช่วงค่ำหลังพระอาทิตย์ตกดิน แต่เท่าที่เห็นเที่ยงคืนแล้วก็ยังไหว้กันอยู่เลย บางคนถึงกับปูเสื่อนอนบริเวณรอบๆ นั้นเลยก็มี ไหว้เสร็จแล้ว ก่อนกลับก็อย่าลืมเดินชมร้านรวง อุดหนุนของที่ระลึกพื้นเมืองที่แม่ค้าหน้าแฉล้มปะแป้งทานาคาดูเป็นมิตรติดไม้ติดมือก่อนกลับลงมา สักชิ้นสองชิ้นด้วยก็แล้วกัน

• การเดินทางจากเมืองหลวงเก่าย่างกุ้งมายังเมืองไจโท (Kyaikto) สามารถเช่ารถตู้หรือแท็กซี่ จากสนามบินได้เลย หรือจะไปขึ้นรถบัสสายย่างกุ้ง-พะโค
• จะไปไจโทต้องใช้เวลาเดินทางประมาณ 6-7 ชั่วโมง เมื่อถึงแค้มป์คิมปุน แล้วต่อรถบรรทุกสิบล้อมีไม้พาด
ให้นั่ง (คนไทยเรียกติดปากว่า รถขนหมู) แล้วเดินเท้าต่ออีกหน่อยก็ถึง แต่ถ้าไม่ไหวก็จะมีลูกหาบเตรียมเสลี่ยงให้นั่งชิลๆ
• ถ้ายังพอมีเวลา สามารถแวะเที่ยวระหว่างทางได้ที่เมืองพะโคหรือหงสา ที่นั่นมีวัดวาอาราม พระนอนองค์ใหญ่ พระตำหนักบุเรงนอง รวมถึงสถานที่สำคัญที่มีประวัติเกี่ยวข้องกับประเทศไทยด้วย
• สายการบินที่สามารถบินตรงมายังประเทศเมียนมาร์ อาทิ Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Air Asia, Nok Air เป็นต้น
